Which Mac is better Intel iMac or the current PowerPC

I'm looking to get a new mac. I use some graphic intensive programs.  Would I be okay with just using an iMac for daily photoshop use?   Does it have enough processor power and ram available??  I like the look of the imac and the fact that the computer does not have a tower case to put on the floor.   Any advice on this mac computer purchase would be appreciated!
